WORLD PREMIERE: That Asymmetrical Black + Snakeskin Swimsuit

I just broke my record this weekend. After this world premiere comes another. I wasn't expecting it either; this swimwear purchase was just a last-minute decision. When I stumbled on this blog entry, I got saddened that this cool launch slipped under my radar in spite of the fact that I'm just in Eastwood all working hours every week. Curiosity and excitement consumed me after hearing that The Plump Pinay twins designed a handful of curve-friendly swimsuits for I Love Koi. So I dragged my office pals to the Complex Lifestyle Store to check them out. While doing so, I recalled how one of my wave mates who'll be joining us in this quick summer getaway was jokingly regarded as a fashion police ("Bawal mag-ulit ng swimsuit!!!"). Plus, it's my first out-of-town traipse with Waldo so I wanted to look extra extra seksi in his eyes. And the rest is an impulsive buying history.

Although some friends call it a splurge, I consider it cheaper (P2,280) compared to my prior take-homes from Speedo (ranging from P3,000-4,000+). It is indeed a kikay swimwear, but I wished it had maximum support for my twins Suzy and Geno. Based on this photo, I got the impression it was entirely asymmetrical. The strap was a welcome surprise until it made disappearing acts when I paddled away from the shore. I felt sexier when I unhooked the strap, but I noticed that the boyfriend went protective. The design promised full coverage so I was clueless where was his irrational fear of nip slip was coming from. Yes, it is a good buy!

Now here's the part where I saturate you with my uninspired poses. Yeah, I wanted to treat you to varied poses like the ones in Camiguin, but I had to plunge to the waters right away. Having your monthly period at the beach sucks big-time. Sighs.

Seksi back sana...until the strap got tangled!
Too dressy to get wet? Watch me!

Upon seeing The Plump Pinay's swimwear designs online, my officemates (men and women alike) expressed that this particular design I fancy and this one were too dressy to be worn and get soaked in the beach. One guy said I can wear either of the two and just slip on my denim jeans and show up in the office. Well, I did get this swimsuit drenched. And I have this photo to prove it! Haha!

  2. you do know that they are copied designs right?

I actually hate the fact that the plump pinay thinks that we are all so stupid enough to not notice that their 'original designs' are actually copies of foreign designers!

Check it out http://thereistruthhere.tumblr.com/ It's actually weird as to why this has not yet blown up and its sad that they are now claiming that they are designers because of it.

Used to be a fan but not anymore. A lot of people said they were fake and now I understand why. Sad but true.

    Sorry for the rant.

    1. hi anonymous,

just want to give my opinion on ur comment.

      trends are trends.

everyone copies everyone on the fashion industry. not saying that its an excuse to do this but i think this isnt really a big deal.

i dont hear big designers ranting when forever 21 or h&m and other lines copy their designs to make it affordable to the public. i think its good that these trends are available to everyone who cant afford clothes worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

besides, why are u so offended that they "copied" the designs? i think the bigger picture here is they're promoting the idea that all girls can wear beutiful clothes or swimwear for the matter. its sad that ure so focused on the small thing rather than looking at the bigger picture. theyre providing awesome swimwear for ALL types of body size/shape.

hope you just accept the fact that nothings ever original anymore specially in the fashion industry. dont see why you keep whining about it and you keep trying to make people turn their backs on the twins. in the end i think its all about giving back to people, either thru designing clothes or making a blog.

as for the twins as being fake, there are two sides to every story, and it just goes to show ur immaturity and how easily u can be swayed.

hope you can get over this minor issue and continue letting people live their life and see the positive things. after all, thats what these blogs are about, to promote positivity.

stop hating. if u cant stop hating, at least stop spreading the hate.

    2. Hi Anonymous,

I actually agree with you na they did copy their designs. I have seen that link long before pa.

For me naman, it's okay to copy trends pero to actually copy the whole design to a tee is bonkers tapos sasabihin na sa kanilang design yun. Iba yun sobra.

Pero let go mo na. Some people can get away with anything nowadays. On to the next!

    3. Hey anon!

I actually went to the site you linked and I saw the photos. I went to google to check out the "original" designs.

It surprised me to see that the price of one swim swuit (Monif C.) is $150 or PHP6,450. For the Gisela Ramirez "copy", I googled again the webpage to see and the bottom only is priced at 80AUD or PHP8,000. Even more shocking.

I hope you realize that the prices of the "original" designs are already worth the salary of an employee here in the Philippines. It's just too much to pay for something that will only be used every summer season and will only be considered "trendy" for a time.

Why don't you make a tumblr of Forever 21 and all the copies of clothes they make?

This is very petty issue to me. All I'll say is I'm happy that these gorgeous ladies made this line. Now my big, beautiful girlfriend has wonderful swimsuits to wear. ;)

    5. Hi Anonymous #2, I'm clueless about this copycat issue until you brought it up. I checked the Tumblr link again and it can't be found anymore. Anyway, I think trends tend to repeat itself over time and I suppose the "original" designs served as inspiration for The Plump Pinay's collection. I'd like to think they didn't do this intentionally. Perhaps the foreign designers got to release their designs first than the twins? I wouldn't really know for sure.

I'm saddened by this news. I hope the girls would come up with a statement to clarify this. But that's just me.

      Thanks for the visit. :)

  3. Poor anon,

you stumbled upon a pro-The plump pinay site. They will eat you alive. You do have a point. We see that.

    Unfortunately, no one really cares.

  8. Sad to say anon, totoo nga ang sinabi mo. pero kahit anong gawin mo eh kakapit pa din ang mga tao sa the plump pinay dahil sa mensahe nila.

sa mata nila eh "bayani" ang the plump pinay. Hindi mo na matatanggal yun.

  9. Yeah Forever 21 is a knock off. This is a good read: http://jezebel.com/5822762/how-forever-21-keeps-getting-away-with-designer-knockoffs and yet a lot of people here fuss over Forever 21.

As for the twins' case, who are we to say the design is theirs? Not a hater, I don't even know who they really are in real life. To say the least that it is theirs is funny though. Yes, it's a knock off. But I am okay: there are lots of options out there. I won't be proud to say I am on season, who really cares?

Hahaha. I have never been a fashionista because of how superficial the industry is! Sorry the topic moved into another direction which is all about knock-offs.

    On-topic: keep up the confidence!

    1. The twins never said they OWN the designs. The anonymous commenter is the one saying they STOLE it.

Funny, I bet the Danah and Stacey are so clueless about this hoopla goin on.

    2. the twin DID say that it's their designs. even I love koi said it so.

pero true! masyado ng malaki ang the plump pinay to even know that this is happening.

    3. Sure. I get your point. Let's move on.

    4. Thanks for the link. Wow, that's...awful. Do we have a similar movement to protect the minds behind the fabric designs and their hardwork here in the Philippines? :(

I don't consider myself a fashion champion either and I often ask myself why, of all topics, did I get into fashion blogging. (Some would argue mine is more like lifestyle blogging). Haha! But I'm after inspiring fellow plus size women and, eventually, all people who have body image issues. I'm on this slow journey to become fashionable yet comfortable at the same time. And I'm thrilled to know where this would take me. :))

I truly hope the twins would be aware of this.

    5. Not to offend you or anything, but we have cousins who are wealthy but they do not mind wearing the same swimsuit every time they go out swimming. That in itself I find your statement, "Bawal mag-ulit ng swimsuit." offensive. Sorry. Unless you have a lot of money to spend for one. Go ahead.

    6. Sorry for offending you. But I'd like to clarify that I do repeat my swimsuits. You may check this entry: http://extraseksi.blogspot.com/2011/03/bikini-postcards-from-philippines.html

I apologize that the first paragraph failed to capture what transpired during the "bawal-mag-ulit-ng-swimsuit" joke. I showed my colleagues a photo of myself wearing the black one-piece in Batanes and one of them reacted, "Diba 'yan rin ang suot mo nung nag-Boracay tayo?" One of them was quick to consider it an attempt to be a fashion police and stated "Bawal daw mag-ulit ng swimsuit!" Everybody else agreed. But we were all kidding. Whether this incident happened or not, I'll still repeat wearing my old swimwears. In fact, I'll be wearing an old one for my upcoming trip to Zamboanga.

      Again, thanks for dropping by.

  11. I saw a local online shop selling plus size swimwear and they have that swimsuit your wearing in orange.

I don't hear Danah and Stacy making a fucking big deal out of it. I guess probably because they know how trends are being copied all the time..

Just move on to better things and stop ranting about little issues I guess. There are so many issues to talk about!

    Back to body acceptance.....
