WORLD PREMIERE: That Peplum Dress / 17th of the 27 Dresses

Remember this little sneak preview? I divulged I'll wear that peplum dress to a fairy tale wedding, but I was unable to change into that before the production team started filming Maya & Ser Chief's wedding. I had time to do so, but the cosmos had its funny ways to prevent my little plan. Loooong, heartbreaking story.

Luckily, I had one more wedding to attend this month! This time, I'm my best friend's plus one to her guy best friend's wedding. I know almost everyone in their office so I felt comfortable crashing their wedding haha.

Don't you just adore this dress?

Details, details!

Outfit of the Day:
Peplum dress from Erzullie (sold out!)
Snakeskin clutch bag from Suiteblanco
Gray heels from VNC
White dangling earrings from Mama
Bangle from DJ

Because I'm a sucker for weddings, I shall leave you with photos of the best dressed in my humble opinion and some romantic moments captured during the wedding and reception. Love, love, love!

Best dressed female: Our big boss! So classy in her simple gown! *applause*

Best dressed biologically male: How long did it take Rye to button up? I'm clueless!

Congrats, Jerome! Best wishes, Valerie!

WORLD PREMIERE: That Long Light Green Dress / 13th of the 27 Dresses

You've heard of my plan to attend 27 weddings and bring my hopeless romantic energies with me each time, just like in one of my favorite chick flicks of the same title. You may see my prior entries about my adventures so far here and there.

This December, I was hand-picked to co-host two weddings, namely the Ino-Gladys and Clark-Krisha nuptials. Looking back, I'm second-degree friends with the former couple. Ino is my best friend Ina's big brother and, for the longest time, my frustrated dive instructor. Gladys, on the other hand, started to become a good friend since we shared the same table during Ina's wedding. In spite of Ina's requests to channel a true Filipina (refined, silent, you name it) during the reception, I just can't turn off my madahldahl self. I recall Gladys, Joey and I agreed to get rid of the centerpiece. It gets in the way! Needless to say, when Ino and Gladys announced their engagement, I immediately expressed my willingness to attend the wedding.

To cut costs during this typically expensive holiday, I planned to recycle one of the earlier gowns or dresses for this wedding. But that all changed as soon as I spotted this long custard green dress in the tiangge inside our office compound. With the purple-green motif, I felt so justified to shell out a little to look fab for the event.

But you guys know me too well. Before I turn fab, there's always a hilarious or simply-wrong back story to share. I am fully aware that make-up preps call for robes or any buttoned top to prevent any make-up-related mishaps when we ladies change to the actual gown. That early morning, I can't find any so I slipped into my usual casual tee. As you would expect from a make-up artist, he asked me to use the complimentary robe (luckily, the bride brought her own robe!) instead. When the groom's mother arrived, she inquired how come I'm wearing the robe and my friends were quick to connect the dots that I'm in the mood for some role-playing. And so I did some poses as, uhm, the little bride.

All right, enough about me and my dress. I find this ceremony truly special simply because it felt like an union of two families, not two souls alone. Everybody truly had a great time, everyone had their turn to vocalize their support and commitment to grow old with the couple, everybody had their chance to perform Gang Nam Style as if this planet's days were truly numbered (yep, the secondary sponsors entered the venue dancing to that song). It was also touching to see the groom shed tears while his bride took her walk along the aisle and how he invited everyone to their 25th anniversary. Something that you can expect from a Pausanos kid.

The newlyweds!

Awww <3

The bride surprised the groom with moooore Gang Nam Style

Aside from how intimate and fun the night turned out to be, I specifically adore the fact that the newlyweds chose DC as their official footwear. Gladys wore green while Ino wore purple socks. If you've visited this humble virtual niche for the past months/year, you're probably aware how I often come up with excuses to avoid high heels. Except for occasions like this. But, hey, I daydream to wear something equally comfy for my big day, too. I just dunno what particular footwear yet, though.

[12 of] 27 Dresses

You've heard of my intent to perform supporting roles in at least 27 weddings here. This year, the parade of romantic rites began at my aunt's exchange of vows with a family friend. I remember how we used to sigh about our seemingly zero lovelives and, in one instance, how I assured her that Mr. Right will definitely come knocking to those who patiently wait. Fast forward that day, she began a deeper romantic journey with Tito Jojo and I, in turn, introduced the new man in my life to our big (paternal) family. A milestone indeed!

The inspiration behind my gown! Thanks Google images!

As soon as my mother saw this picture, she bombarded me with disapproving spiels, reminding me how my big arms are total eye sores and all that. She even added the other secondary sponsors will don cocktail dresses so why can't I do the same? I countered sponsors are supposed to be in long dresses. If they won't, it's up to them.

The creation of this gown subjected me into series of stressful moments that are still too fresh to recount. Maybe when I can finally look back and laugh away. Then, there's this last-minute realization that my silver clutch bag refuses to unzip and my mum is too occupied running the show to help me find a decent replacement from her own closet. Anyway, this is a festive event so enough blabbing and let's proceed to the photos!

My beautiful bouquet

Wheeeeere's Waldo? Right here beside me!

Waldo is no part of the entourage, but this bratinella prefers that his attire would complement my gown and he looks stunning when we waltz in together. After all, nobody walks in in casual polo during meet-the-big-family moments like this, right? We had our own little adventure shopping for this formal wear and I'm glad that he realized that he, too, can look stylish in such outfit.

Here comes the cord sponsors!

By the time reception rolled around, my gown had started manifesting slight malfunction. It was like Suzi and Geno were fighting for their own airtime, wanting to be freed from their hiding place. But that would be too obscene. So when they asked for the single ladies to come in front for the traditional bouquet throw, I had a valid excuse to remain seated and fidget on my buttons. Phew!

I know I've blogged somewhere that I truly enjoy the competition for the bouquet throws and I can't comprehend why most Pinays prefer to play the killjoy role each time. Now I realize that it's a different story when you're finally dating someone and they expect you to be the next to dash to tie the knot. Harharhar! Chill out, people!

Look for me...if you can!

Going back to the gown, I believe the fit can still be improved. And that Hello Kitty bag is beyond inappropriate for the event. I'll just try to redeem myself next time. When they renew their vows, maybe?

Hello Kitty handbag

[10 of] 27 Dresses

Wedding preparations can get frustrating for the budget belles, considering that local mainstream fashion is just really starting to be plus size-friendly. Although I've had my share of dissatisfaction from the clothing items some brands pass off as Xtra appealing, I cheer myself up with the thought that weddings are still festive moments. Your best friend or colleague or distant relative invited you to partake in that significant rite of passage because you, too, are significant. You can't just show up looking like you're attending a funeral waiting to happen! We really must make an effort to appear alluring whether or not, to quote a line from 27 Dresses, the only reason to wear this monstrous dress is that so some drunken groomsman can rip it to shreds with his teeth.

I've recently survived the greatest challenge in my social calendar thus far: attend 4 weddings within 2 months AND look good. I'm in the mood to retrospect in hopes to share my lessons derived from my dress-hunting adventures. Here's your instant flashback from the first to the most recent weddings I've attended.

The Molina-Marquez Nuptials

L-R: Edmund (groom), Anahata (bride) and myself

Please ignore the fact that that is NOT a dress. It's a perfect demonstration of what lack of inspiration can do. I was wearing a long colorful skirt I bought from Cocoon's Nest in Malate and a white off-shoulder top. Nothing tangerine (the wedding's theme) at all!

At the reception with Anne and her tangerine shawl. Back then, she's the only mutual friend I have with the bride.

Wearing a brown dress from Versace. Don't you just love ukay ukay stores? Pretty yet uncomfortable shoes from VNC. Although I share this obsession with the color purple with the bride, I failed to display it that night.

L-R: Sha-Sha (bride), myself and, the poor victims of my repeated these-shoes-aren't-made-for-walking spiels, Venice and Shiela.

Myself as one of the liturgy sponsors.

Myself as the runner-up for the much-coveted FREE round-trip tickets to Boracay and bouquet. Turned out the former was just a joke.

Wearing a plain purple dress that officemate Atong was selling that summer. It was from her sister in Dubai. Serendipity!

And the bride had spoken: let's take back the hands of time to the 1940s! My Google image search somehow ended when I saw this photo.

Here's how it would look like on a postmodern woman. This dress was tailored by Kuya Anthony (now deceased) from Divisoria, lace gloves from SM, digital perm by Mr. Shin of Be@uty Brick, walking flats (that replaced my silver heels from VNC) from Sabella, white corset (not seen in this photo) from Segunda Mano. Wearing an P850-worth ready-made cocktail dress somewhere in Divisoria and my mother's accessories. Don't tell her, though.

Wearing a sleeveless silver gown from Divisoria (thanks to haggling, I took it home for P1,400!), black shawl from SM and recycling that lace gloves due to the cold weather that made it to the headlines. Staring down at the beautful view from St. Pio's Chapel in Bekkel, La Trinidad.

The masters of ceremony: Rene, Deo and myself.

As I have painstakingly detailed here, there's a reason why I was wearing those leggings and paisely-printed slip-on sneakers from Rusty Lopez.

Damian Ball left right after the bouquet-and-garter game and, most importantly, he's NOT that into girls.

The secondary sponsors (and the rest of the entourage) were all wearing Nono Palmos.Vintage Filipiñana is love!

That's Vince and I in action, putting the cord on Alistair and Ina!

As bitter as it may sound, the bouquet had to go to someone else. Why, cosmos, why?! I was NOT wearing any leggings that time! I was wearing a pair of 5-inch platforms from Payless! WHY?!

As you can probably tell by now, I'm no fashion champion who is truly licensed to direct you what to wear. I've had moments in horror roll in the past and have more fashion tips to learn in the future. However, I take pride in the genuine smile I brought with me each time. Not a smirk for being able to up-stage fellow guests, neither a scowl for being reminded of my sorry, singleton sob story. As the title of this blog implies, there are more weddings to make a grand attendance on! Let's drink to that!
